Hello! We are looking for an experienced Hydroponic/Aquaponic farmer for Work Exchange We are a permaculture based ecological surf resort nestled in one of Central America's top surfing regions known as La Libertad or the Balsam Coast of El Salvador. Located specifically on the Comasagua River watershed, we sit where the river meets the ocean over a cobblestone reef, surrounded by dozens of similar point breaks and reef breaks. It is safe to say the surf is world class, the vibes are mellow and we like to keep things green and lively. We host 5 small earth friendly villas, exquisitely built from upcycled pallets, local palms, hardwoods and cob, within a young food forest of coconuts, papayas, mangos, and other tropical delicacies. We have built a pond and have inoculated it with local aquatic flora and fauna, which boasts several types of shrimp, fish, insects, snails and visiting birds of all feathers... ... the dream is to connect this already thriving ecosystem into a recirculating hydroponic/aquaponic system to supplement our restaurant with fresh herbs and produce. This is where you come in! What we Offer -Twin Bed in shared or private room (depending on other volunteers/employees at the time) with AC, bathroom and private outdoor shower -Beachfront Restaurant / Pool / Hang out area -World Class Surfing -Coconuts, Mangos, Papaya+ from the property -Breakfast and Coffee everyday -$300 restaurant credit (open tab) with 25% off menu price Friendship and Good Vibes What we need: -At LEAST 5 years building/working with recirculating aquaponic or hydroponic systems (does not have to be industrial or big scale commercial experience) -Knowledge and a love for growing plants -Friendly and Encouraging demeanor and manners -Some Spanish -6 hours of work a day 5 days a week (30 hours a week) for 6 weeks = 180 hours Not needed but sought after skills: PDC certified Passionate about food and ethically grown food Organic / biodynamic farmer Fluent Spanish Ideal Time Frame: 6 week plan: 1-2: Site assessment, design, blueprints, mock layout and purchasing of equipment/materials 3-5: Building and Implementing 6: Training staff
